My stay at Sampson’s Guesthouse was a Godsend blessing. Initially when I was coming to Ghana recently I decided that I should be independent from my extended family in Accra before journeying to my home town at Secondi- Takoradi. However I needed a base in Accra with a family atmosphere where I can feel at home and maintain my privacy and some peace and quite, but at the same time get an informal catering facilities yet unobtrusive to my way of life. Then someone suggested your guesthouse for me.
At first I was a bit sceptical about the location, but I later realised that it was the most convenient location for me.
It was within an easy reach of the City Centre and at the same time has a quick access to the Kotoka International Airport on one side and the beautiful beaches of Koklobitey & Bortianor and the Elmina / Takoradi route on the other side.
Your hospitality and your policy to reduce the daily rate of my accommodation and those of the other individuals and families on longer stay of 4 weeks or more made quite a difference to me both financially and otherwise.
The only small negative side was the short untarmaced road from the junction to your guesthouse, which I am sure would have been done by my next visit to Accra. But this little problem is considerably outweighed by your hospitality and facilities.
I am surprised the your facilities include Electric Hot Showers and DST tv which my family enjoyed immensely.
I am so delighted that I have already decided to make your place a permanent transit base whenever I am in Ghana and I have already recommended your guesthouse to.

September 2007 marked the start of my spiritual journey to Ghana. As I had never been to Ghana before it was essential that I had a base from which I felt comfortable and safe, and a place that had good transport connections to other parts of Ghana that I wanted to explore. That base was Sampson’s Guest House, a warm and friendly family run business in Santa Maria a suburb of Accra.
A clean and welcoming respite from the hustle and bustle of hot dusty Accra, Sampson’s Guest House is an oasis of warm friendly, supportive staff. Situated within its own gated compound, the grounds of the house feature an attractive landscaped garden and a variety of fruit trees. Bedrooms are large, air conditioned and very comfortable. Each bedroom has its own en-suite bathroom spotlessly clean, but if you are not use to showering in cold water, its an experience that can cause the deepest baritone to sing soprano. Although I heroically showered each day in cold water, staff are more than willing to heat water for your convenience*. (*Proprietor’s comments: Instant Electric Showers have been fitted since Mr. Powell’s visit). My room was tastefully decorated and included a built-in wardrobe. Additional facilities included a laundry service, a must for those travelling lightly.
Meals are not included, however, this can be arranged on request. I was out every day and wanted to experience the culinary delights of local restaurants and street side vendors, dishes such as Red Red (fried plantain and baked beans stew), Kelewele (deep fried plantain seasoned with ginger and chilli) and Fufu (either pounded plantain and cassava or yam), emmm…. hope you like plantains..
If its your first time to Ghana, then a trip to Cape Coast and Elmina is a must, there you’ll find the infamous slave castles, which I found to be a very sobering and spiritual experience. Another must for your itinerary is Kumasi, Ghana’s second city and home of the Ashanti. Those travelling between towns and cities will find this guest house an ideal location to leave unnecessary bags and luggage as you journey between locations.
I hope to visit Ghana in the near future and Sampson’s Guest House will be my first choice for accommodation.
